A very serious motorcycle accident in Harnett County, North Carolina on Sunday has resulted in the death of Latracia Ballard and serious injuries to Garland Allen.
The accident happened around 12:55 am on Broadway Road. Based on the information we have available, a Ford pickup truck pulled across the center line and into the path of the Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Mr. Allen. Despite the best efforts of Mr. Allen, the motorcycle struck the pickup. Ms. Latracia Ballard was thrown from the motorcycle and later died at Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital. Mr. Allen was taken to Cape Fear Hospital in Fayetteville for treatment of serious injuries.
It is unclear why the driver of the pickup crossed the center line in such a dangerous manner. While the available information does not indicate that charges have been filed against the pickup driver, this type of accident usually results in a misdemeanor death by motor vehicle charge. If there are aggravating circumstances such as impairment, the charges may escalate to felony death by motor vehicle.
