A motorcyclist named Keith Ricks was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Monday evening in Charlotte, North Carolina. The accident happened on Mallard Creek Road when a green minivan turned left from Keaton Avenue and into the path of Mr. Ricks. The minivan hit the back right side of Mr. Ricks bike causing him to lay the bike down and skid into the opposing lane where he was hit by a second vehicle. Mr. Ricks did not survive the crash. Mr. Ricks was 45 years old.
Police are actively looking for the green minivan which apparently sped away form the scene. The driver of the minivan is described as a Hispanic male with dark short hair. The minivan is believed to be a 1992-1998 Mercury Villager or similar type of van.
This is a very serious accident that is made only worse by the fact that the offending driver did not stop at the accident scene but, rather, chose to drive away. Hopefully, the police will track down this driver and bring him to justice for his acts.

A motorcyclist was seriously injured on Saturday night in an accident with a Hoke County Sheriff’s deputy. The accident apparently happened when the sheriff’s deputy pulled onto Galatia Church Road and the motorcyclist hit the deputy’s car.
The article describing this accident is very interesting because it appears to place the blame on the motorcyclist. The article says that the deputy looked both ways before pulling out and that’s when the motorcyclist “slammed into him.” However, the sheriff’s deputy has a duty to yield to all vehicles including the motorcycle when pulling onto the roadway. If the sheriff’s deputy pulled into the path of the motorcyclist, the sheriff’s deputy would be at fault and not the motorcyclist.

The driver of the motorcycle and a passenger on the motorcycle were seriously injured.
The information available regarding this serious accident does not provide very much detail about what happened. However, it would appear that the car turned into the path of the motorcycle and that the motorcycle had no opportunity to avoid the collision. A gentleman named Shelton McLean was killed early Friday morning in an accident involving a Lee County Deputy Sheriff. According to available information, Mr. McLean was riding an ATV on East Forest Oaks Drive when a deputy sheriff pulled out of a church and the ATV and the patrol car collided. Reports state that the ATV was straddling the yellow line and that the deputy sheriff was proceeding in the correct lane. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is apparently investigating the wreck.
Several questions about this wreck remain unclear such as did the ATV have operating headlights and if so, why didn’t the deputy sheriff avoid the collision? Hopefully, NCSHP investigators will be able to determine what really happened in this accident as the initial reports are not entirely clear.

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a Cary NC motorcycle accident on Wednesday afternoon. The circumstances of the accident are unusual in that reports indicate that the motorcyclist had lost control of his bike and wrecked after exiting US I/440 to I-40. A North Carolina State Highway Patrol officer had stopped to assist the biker when a Mercedes ran into the back of the patrol vehicle.
Apparently, the driver of the Mercedes, the state trooper, and the motorcyclist were all injured with the motorcyclist suffering serious injuries. It is not clear whether the motorcyclist was injured in the initial crash or whether he was injured when the Mercedes hit the patrol car. If the injuries to the motorcyclist were caused, or made worse, by the Mercedes, then the motorcyclist would have a potential claim against the driver of the Mercedes and his/her insurance company.
