A motorcyclist was seriously injured on Saturday night in an accident with a Hoke County Sheriff’s deputy.  The accident apparently happened when the sheriff’s deputy pulled onto Galatia Church Road and the motorcyclist hit the deputy’s car.

The article describing this accident is very interesting because it appears to place the blame on the motorcyclist.  The article says that the deputy looked both ways before pulling out and that’s when the motorcyclist “slammed into him.”  However, the sheriff’s deputy has a duty to yield to all vehicles including the motorcycle when pulling onto the roadway.  If the sheriff’s deputy pulled into the path of the motorcyclist, the sheriff’s deputy would be at fault and not the motorcyclist.
