A significant accident in Charlotte, North Carolina involving a FedEx truck and a scooter has resulted in very serious injuries to the scooter driver. The accident happened around 1:00 a.m. on Freedom Drive near the intersection with Interstate 85.
There is very little information available about this accident. The news accounts of this accident indicate that the scooter driver was traveling in the bike lane when the accident occurred. Unfortunately, the scooter driver was apparently very badly injured in the crash and may not survive.

A gentleman from Florida named Sean O’Connor was tragically killed last week when the scooter he was driving was hit from behind by an on-coming vehicle. Mr. O’Connor’s girlfriend, Caroline Cruz, was riding as a passenger on the scooter and she was injured in the collision.
We do not have much additional information about this terrible accident. The published news account of the accident describes Mr. O’Connor as a very unique man who really enjoyed life. He was apparently traveling to North Carolina to see the eclipse when the accident happened.

A gentleman from Harnett County, North Carolina named Joseph Baker was tragically killed last week in an accident involving a mowing tractor. The accident happened on August 15 on North Carolina Highway 24-27 near the Moore County line.
According to reported information, Mr. Baker was operating his Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the eastbound lane of 24-27 when the operator of the mower made a u-turn into Mr. Baker’s lane. Mr. Baker was then forced into the westbound lane but the mower ultimately hit Mr. Baker’s motorcycle. Mr. Baker was then ejected from the bike. He was transported to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill but ultimately passed away as a result of the collision. The operator of the mower was apparently doing contractor work for the NCDOT at the time. The operator has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

A scooter driver on business Interstate 85 near High Point, North Carolina was killed on Tuesday morning after the scooter was hit by a Spencer police car. The accident happened around 5:20 a.m. near the West Green Drive interchange.
There is very little information about what happened in this accident. Reports indicate that both vehicles were in the roadway which would suggest that the police cruiser may have struck the scooter from behind but this is not confirmed. Hopefully, a police investigation will provide more information about the cause of this accident.

A woman named Iona Stephens was tragically killed Monday in an accident while riding as a passenger on a three-wheeled motorcycle in Bladen County, North Carolina. The wreck happened on N.C. Highway 53 at around 3:25 p.m. as the motorcycle traveled through very wet roads. According to available information, the driver of the motorcycle hydroplaned on the road and crossed over to the left side of the roadway.
At the same time, a minivan was traveling in the opposite direction and struck the motorcycle. Ms. Stephens and the driver of the motorcycle were killed in the accident.
This is a very tragic accident and it appears that the wet roadway was a significant cause of the accident. Hopefully, there will be enough insurance to assist Ms. Stephens family with this unfortunate loss.

A gentleman and soldier named Roginald Michel was tragically killed on Saturday night when he was hit by an impaired driver near Raeford, North Carolina.
The accident happened are 9:30 p.m. on Rockfish Road and 1/2 mile north of Camden Road.
The driver of the pickup fled the scene but was later apprehended. The driver has multiple pending charges due to this avoidable accident.
Mr. Michel was a Sergeant stationed at Fort Bragg.

A gentleman named Robert Johnson was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Saturday night in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The accident occurred around 8:40 p.m. on Owen Drive between the intersection of Gillespie Street and Southern Avenue. According to available information, Mr. Johnson was traveling on Owen Drive when his motorcycle struck a car driven by a 37 year old woman.
Mr. Johnson was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition.

A motorcyclist named Lindsey Mathis was tragically killed in an accident this past Saturday night in Pender County, North Carolina. The accident happened on US Highway 117 when a pickup truck apparently turned across the path of Mr. Mathis as he rode southbound on Highway 117.
Mr. Mathis was apparently a well known DJ and singer in the southeastern part of North Carolina.
The driver of the pickup was apparently a 15 year old boy who was operating the pickup with only a permit. It is not clear whether he was being supervised at the time of the accident. There is also no word on whether charges have been filed.

A gentleman named Calvin Brown was seriously injured in a Fayetteville, North Carolina motorcycle accident on Friday. The accident reportedly occurred at around 12:20 p.m. on Hope Mills Road when a Chevrolet van struck Mr. Brown who was riding a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
As a result of the accident, Mr. Brown was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition.

A serious crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV in Statesville, North Carolina on Saturday has resulted in serious injuries to biker Jerry Benfield.
The wreck happened on Lewis Ferry Road around 12:00 noon. According to available information, a man was pulling out of his driveway in a GMC SUV and crossed into Mr. Benfield’s lane of travel. An eyewitness reported that it did not appear that Mr. Benfield was speeding.
Fortunately, the reports indicate that Mr. Benfield did not suffer life threatening injuries.
