A Raleigh motorcyclist named Joseph Alles was killed on Sunday night in Raleigh after being struck by a woman driving a sedan automobile.

The tragic accident happened around 7:30 pm at the intersection of Hollenden Drive and Spring Forest Road in the northern part of Raleigh.  According to reports, the driver of the sedan was trying to turn left onto Hollenden when she hit the motorcyclist.  A passenger on the motorcycle named Wendy Ingram Sparta was also injured and taken to WakeMed for treatment.

It is not clear from the available information on this accident whether the driver of the sedan was distracted at the time of the accident.  In many cases such as this, we find evidence that the driver may have been using a handheld device at the time of the accident.  Information such as this can be important in sorting out what happened and in determining the extent of liability for the driver.  Nonetheless, in this case the driver was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and the liability of the driver would appear clear.
