I recently came across an interesting letter to the New Bern Sun Journal regarding motorcycle safety.  The letter writer, Rick Barney of New Bern, notes that there have been 117 motorcycle crashes in Craven County within the past three years including two fatalities within the past two weeks.

Mr. Barney’s letter discusses the importance of motorcycle rider training and indicates that a basic rider course is offered through the Craven County Community College.

Read Mr. Barney’s letter.

Mr. Barney’s letter highlights many of the issues that we frequently see in motorcycle accidents.  A large number of motorcycle accidents happen because on-coming drivers fail to pay attention to motorcyclists.  Frequently, the accident occurs when a vehicle turns into the path of a motorcycle.
