Leland, North Carolina Motorcylist Killed When Driver Drifts Left Of Center

A terrible wreck on Sunday afternoon in Brunswick County, North Carolina has resulted in the death of a motorcyclist. 

The wreck happened on N.C. 87 when a car driven by Alice Osborne apparently drifted left of the center line and into the lane occupied by motorcyclist James Osborne.  As a result, Mr. Osborne was killed.

Salisbury North Carolina Moped Rider Hurt After Hitting Pothole

Saturday night a moped rider in Salisbury, North Carolina was seriously injured after his moped hit a pothole on U.S. 29.

The moped rider, Anthony Torralba, was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist for treatment of his injuries. 

Based on what I have read about this wreck so far, it is not clear where the pothole was located that caused this wreck.  However, police are investigating.

Anti-Lock Brakes Valuable Safety Feature on Motorcycles

I recently came across a very interesting article in Consumer Reports about the value of having antilock brakes (ABS) on motorcycles.

According to Consumer Reports, motorcycles with anitlock brakes are 37% less likely to be involved in a fatal crash.  Despite this icnredible statistics, most mid-level and lower motorcycles do not come with ABS.  Motorcycles in Europe are required to have ABS by 2016 but there is no similar law in the UNited States.

Serious Wreck Between Two Motorcyclists Results in Hospitalization of Marine

A serious wreck between two motorcycles on Sunday afternoon in Jones County, North Carolina hsa resulted in the hospitalization of a Marine.

The wreck apparently happened when a group of ten motorcyclists were riding together and two of them bumped into each other.  As a result, motorcyclist Myron Jackson sruck a sign and landed in a ditch.  He was airlifted for treatment of his injuries.  Reports indicate that the other motorcyclist will likely be charged in the wreck.

Durham Motorcyclist Dies in Wreck

A Durham, North Carolina motorcyclist has died following a wreck with a car on Saturday evening in Durham.

The wreck happened at the intersection of North Roxboro Road and Olympic Avenue.

It is not clear how the wreck occurred and police are investigating.

Serious Motorcycle Wreck at Vietnam Veterans Celebration in Concord, North Carolina Sends Three to Hospital

According to reports, two motorcycles collided at the closing of a celebration for Vietnam Veterans in Concord, North Carolina. 

The wreck occurred at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and resulted in three people being sent to the hospital.  Apparently, police are investigating the wreck.

United States Marines Make Motorcycle Safety A Priority

I recently found an interesting an important article describing how the United States Marines and Navy will be making motorcycle safety a priority.

Apparently, 19 Marines died in 2007 in motorcycle crashes.  In 2008, 25 Marines died in motorcycle crashes.  After providing significant motorcycle safety training in 2009, the number of motorcycle fatalities dropped but the number has started to rise again.  Apparently, 56% of recent motorcycle deaths involving Marines were connected to a lack of training.

Selma, North Carolina Moped Rider Seriously Injured

A Selma man riding a moped was seriosuly injured on Sunday night when a truck rear-ended him.

The wreck apparently happened on Country Store Road in Selam around 9:00 pm.  The moped rider was taken to WakeMed for treatment of his injuries.  There are not many other details available about this wreck.

Raeford Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Hit and Run Accident

A Raeford man riding his motorcycle on NC 211 on Friday was seriously injured by a hit and run driver.

The wreck apparently happened when a four door white passenger vehicle hit motorcyclist Leonard Louie on Friday morning.  As a result of the wreck, Mr. Louie suffered severe injuries to his hand and foot.  Police are looking for the driver of the vehicle.  Mr. Louie was taken to a local hospital but thankfully his injuries are not life-threatening.

Truck Turns In Front of Motorcyclist on U.S. Highway 64 Killing Motorcyclist

A terrible wreck on Thursday on U.S. Highway 64 near Lexington, North Carolina has claimed the life of a motorcylist.

The wreck apparently happened when a drievr of a Chevrolet truck turned into the path of a motorcycle driven by Kenneth Hutchins on Thursday afternoon.  Tragically, Mr. Hutchins did not survive the wreck.

This wreck is yet another terrible example of the tragic consequences of a driver not paying attention to a motorcyclist.  The family of the victim has our deepest sympathies.
