Shelton McLean Killed in Sanford NC ATV Accident With Deputy Sheriff
A gentleman named Shelton McLean was killed early Friday morning in an accident involving a Lee County Deputy Sheriff. According to available information, Mr. McLean was riding an ATV on East Forest Oaks Drive when a deputy sheriff pulled out of a church and the ATV and the patrol car collided. Reports state that the ATV was straddling the yellow line and that the deputy sheriff was proceeding in the correct lane. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is apparently investigating the wreck.
Several questions about this wreck remain unclear such as did the ATV have operating headlights and if so, why didn’t the deputy sheriff avoid the collision? Hopefully, NCSHP investigators will be able to determine what really happened in this accident as the initial reports are not entirely clear.
