A gentleman named Joshua Johnson was killed Wednesday in a scooter accident in Durham, North Carolina.

The accident apparently happened on University Drive at around 2:00 pm.  According to reports, the driver of a Dodge vehicle tried to make a left turn into the path of the scooter driver near the intersection of University Drive and Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard.

This is another tragic instance where a motor vehicle has turned left into the pathway of a scooter driver or motorcyclist.  This type of accident is among the most common, and most fatal, types of accidents that involve scooters and motorcycles.  It is not clear in this case whether the car driver was distracted with a cell phone or similar device and hopefully the investigating officers will determine everything that led to this tragic accident.
